Learning outcomes approved by the Resolution no. 163/2019 of the Senate of The Maria Grzegorzewska University of 16 May 2019 on the programme of studies in the field of sociology of general academic profile, as amended.
LEARNING OUTCOMES IN THE AREA OF KNOWLEDGE – The graduate of the first cycle study programme in the field of sociology has an extended knowledge of facts, theories, methods and complex relationships between them, various and complex conditions of conducted activity in the field of sociology,
and in particular:
- has a basic knowledge about the place and importance of sociology in the system of social sciences, its relation to other scientific disciplines and the subject and methodological specifics;
- has a basic knowledge about the main directions of development and the most important achievements of sociology;
- is familiar with the changing ideas, concepts and notions about social institutions;
- has an advanced knowledge about different structures, institutions and social organisations (cultural, political, legal, economic and medical) functioning on the regional or local scale;
- knows the methods and tools, including data collection techniques, appropriate for sociology, allowing to conduct empirical research;
- knows and understands the basic concepts and principles related to the protection of industrial property and copyright law;
- knows the general principles and development of various forms of individual entrepreneurial activity;
LEARNING OUTCOMES IN THE AREA OF SKILLS – the graduate can perform tasks in an innovative way and solve complex and unusual problems in not fully predictable conditions, plan his/her lifelong learning, communicate with the environment, argue his/her point of view,
and in particular:
- can use his/her knowledge in the field of sociology and data obtained from reliable sources to identify and critically analyse social processes and phenomena (cultural, political, legal, economic) and solve complex and unusual problems in not fully predictable conditions;
- can predict the processes and social phenomena using standard methods and tools appropriate for sociology and advanced information and communication techniques (ICT);
- can prepare speeches and written works according to the standards appropriate for sociology;
- can communicate with the surrounding environment using specialised terminology; can argue and draw conclusions in the debate;
- knows a foreign language at level B2 of the European Framework of Reference for Languages;
- can plan and organise individual and team work, can cooperate with other people as part of team work (also interdisciplinary) and work in a group in various roles;
- can independently plan and implement his/her own learning;
LEARNING OUTCOMES IN THE AREA OF SOCIAL COMPETENCES – the graduate is ready to cultivate and disseminate the patterns of proper conduct inside and outside the work milieu, make independent decisions, critically evaluate his/her activities as well as the activities of teams and organisations to which he/she belongs, and take responsibility for the effects of these activities,
and in particular:
- is ready to critically evaluate the level of his/her knowledge and the data obtained; recognises the importance of knowledge in solving cognitive and practical problems; feels the need to consult experts in the event of difficulties in solving a problem unassisted; understands the need for continuous personal and professional development and lifelong learning;
- is ready to take on professional and personal challenges, is active and entrepreneurial and engages in cooperation for local communities;
- is responsible for the preservation of cultural heritage of the region, country, Europe;
- identifies and resolves dilemmas related to the profession of sociologist;
- respects the professional ethics for sociologists as well as legal, professional and moral norms and rules.
