Learning outcomes accepted by the Resolution No. 171/2019 of the Senate of The Maria Grzegorzewska University of 26 June, 2019 on the programme of study in the field of special education of general academic profile with further amendments.

Learning outcomes in the area of knowledge. Having completed graduate studies (second-cycle studies) in the field of special education, the graduate knows and understands facts, theories, methods and complex dependencies between them, also in connection with other fields which constitute the foundations of designing and undertaking various activities in the field of special education, various complex determinants and the axiological context in working with people with special educational needs; in particular, he/she knows and understands
― in a deepened way the place of special education in the system of sciences, its sub-disciplines as well as its objective and methodological connections with other human, social and medical sciences and the main trends in their development;
― well-structured terminology used in special education widened by terms used in other social science disciplines;
― advanced philosophical, psychological and social concepts of man and his development which constitute the theoretical foundations of rehabilitation, education, therapy and social rehabilitation;
― in a deepened way the regularities and disorders of human development in the life cycle in its biological, psychological, pedagogical and social aspect, their determinants and special needs of the participants in the complex process of rehabilitation, education, therapy and social rehabilitation, as well as extensive methods of their diagnosis;
― in a deepened way the concepts of rehabilitation, education, therapy and social rehabilitation;
― the procedures and methodical regularities related to the implementation of professional tasks in various areas of pedagogy and special education, as well as various determinants of the effectiveness of the measures taken;
― in a deepened way the structure and functions of education systems, support and social rehabilitation of people with special educational needs, goals and principles of institutions functioning in these systems;
― basic theory and research methodology used in special education and other related sciences;
― in a deepened way the legal, economic and ethical foundations of rehabilitation, educational, therapeutic and social rehabilitation measures;
― the fundamental dilemmas of modern civilisation;
― the rules concerning production in scientific and didactic fields as well as the management of intellectual property and copyright laws;
― the basic principles and mechanisms of various forms of entrepreneurship development both in terms of active functioning in the economic field and personal features determining economic activity.

Learning outcomes in the area of skills. The graduate is able to perform tasks and formulate and solve problems related to educational, social and care, social rehabilitation, therapeutic and supportive activities using the new knowledge, also from other fields, independently plan his/her lifelong learning and guide others in this area, communicate with diverse groups of recipients, adequately justify his/her positions; in particular, he/she is able to
― identify complex phenomena and problems that require rehabilitation, educational, therapeutic and social rehabilitation activities, explain the mechanisms and determinants of their development by proper selection of sources of information, evaluation, analysis, synthesis, interpretation and creative presentation of this information;
― design, implement and monitor strategies of activities in the field of special education in unpredictable conditions, generate standard and non-standard solutions to specific problems, anticipate the course and effects of planned activities, properly select and adapt existing or develop new methods, techniques and tools;
― use the knowledge of legal, ethical and economic principles and standards in the planning and implementation of advanced rehabilitation, educational, therapeutic and social rehabilitation activities;
― design simple research and diagnostic projects: formulate and test hypotheses related to simple research problems, select appropriate research methods and tools, interpret research findings, draw simple conclusions and creatively present them;
― communicate with specialists and non-specialists in the field by using advanced techniques and information and communication channels, actively participate in debates on complex issues related to special education, precisely present his/her opinions, positions, doubts and suggestions, evaluate other positions;
― communicate in a foreign language at the B2 + level of the European Framework of Reference for Languages, with particular emphasis on terminology relevant to special education;
― manage the work of a team, including planning, organising and monitoring the implementation of complex team pedagogical activities, cooperate with others as part of team projects;
― independently plan and implement a personal and professional development programme and to inspire participants in pedagogical processes to plan and pursue their own development and lifelong learning.

Learning outcomes in the area of social competences. The graduate is ready to create and develop models of proper conduct in working with people with special educational needs and outside the work environment, take professional initiatives, critically evaluate himself/herself and the teams and organisations in which he/she participates; lead a group and take responsibility for it; in particular, he/she is ready to:
― critically evaluate his/her and other specialists' knowledge and skills, creatively use the scientific knowledge to solve cognitive and practical problems, consult experts in the event of difficulties in solving the problems on his/her own, recognise the importance of scientific knowledge in professional development;
― consciously fulfil social obligations related to the implementation of professional tasks of a special education teacher, inspire and organise activities for the social environment of people with special educational needs, think and act in an entrepreneurial manner;
― responsibly perform a professional role related to rehabilitation, educational, therapeutic and social rehabilitation activities, including following the principles of professional ethic, noticing and formulating moral dilemmas related to his/her own professional role and the role of other specialists, maintaining the ethos of the profession and taking actions to develop scientific achievements in the field of special education.
