Interdisciplinary Studies of Childhood and Children’s Rights (full-time studies) (DU-IP-1)

Learning outcomes approved by Resolution No. 119/2018 of the Senate of The Maria Grzegorzewska University of 19 December, 2018 on the creation of second-cycle studies in the field of Interdisciplinary studies of childhood and children's rights and the adoption of the study programme with further amendments.

Learning outcomes in the area of knowledge. Having completed graduate studies (second-cycle studies) in the field of interdisciplinary studies of childhood and children's rights, the graduate knows and understands in a deep way facts, objects and phenomena concerning the child, his/her development, social, psychological, political, cultural and medical factors related to his/her well-being, methods and theories explaining the complex relationships between them; key issues related to the child, childhood, upbringing, teaching, support and selected issues in the field of advanced detailed knowledge; major development trends of scientific disciplines linked to the interdisciplinary nature of studies relevant to the education programme; research methods allowing for in-depth understanding of the individual situation and the child's living environment; fundamental dilemmas of contemporary civilisation; economic, legal, political, social and other determinants of various types of activities related to childhood and children's rights as well as the principles of industrial property protection and copyright laws and various forms of entrepreneurship development, in particular he/she knows and understands
― selected facts, objects and phenomena concerning the child, his/her development and well-being as well as early intervention, support systems and other issues related to the environmental dimension of childhood in their pedagogical, medical, political and legal aspects;
― principles of the UN Declaration of Human Rights and the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the practical effects of their impact and implementation;
― scientific theories on the child's development, upbringing, teaching, support and rights as well as childhood theories as a biopsychological, social and cultural fact;
― the process of the child's development and upbringing in various environments, considered in pedagogical, psychological, sociological, political, legal and medical contexts;
― terminology for writing academic dissertations;
― various faces of childhood, its individual, social, cultural, economic and political conditions in today's world;
― legal and institutional framework for assistance and child support in multiple situations and determinants of social inclusion;
― fundamental dilemmas of modern civilisation related to childhood, education and changes in the position of the child and family;
― principles of industrial property and copyright protection;
― methodology of social research and methodological nature of research on children;
― development trends of scientific disciplines related to childhood and children's rights studies;
― basic principles of the creation and development of various forms of enterprise.

Learning outcomes in the area of skills. The graduate is able to analyse scientific texts, use the acquired knowledge of the child, determinants of his/her development, well-being and social functioning, formulate and solve complex and unusual problems concerning the child and his/her environment and describe them in academic language; innovatively perform tasks in unpredictable conditions; conduct social research; communicate on specialist subjects with diverse groups of recipients, participate in debates, manage team work, independently plan and implement activities for children's rights and social environments and interact with other people as part of team projects; plan and execute his/her lifelong learning and guide others in this regard, for the sake of his/her self-development and improving personal etiquette; in particular he/she is able to
― use the knowledge of the child, the determinants of his/her development, well-being and social functioning while performing practical tasks;
― select appropriate sources of information and knowledge, critically evaluate, analyse, synthesise and interpret them;
― critically analyse scientific texts and present acquired information and knowledge;
― use these skills in academic writing;
― conduct scientific research using specialised methods, tools and advanced information and communication techniques, adapt existing or develop new ones;
― formulate and test hypotheses related to research problems;
― communicate on specialist subjects related to the child and children's rights with diverse groups of recipients;
― use a foreign language at the B2 + level of the European Framework of Reference for Languages, with particular emphasis on terminology relevant to children's rights and a particular field of study;
― independently plan and implement activities for children's rights as well as to cooperate with other people as part of team projects, e.g. in planning and conducting research tasks related to children's rights as well as to take a leadership role in the team that carries out professional tasks;
― manage his/her own development in a critical and reflective way, acquire theoretical and practical knowledge, reflectively evaluate himself/herself and his/her actions, build and develop his/her intellectual and social capital;
― creatively plan and implement his/her lifelong learning and guide others in this area by adopting a positive attitude towards himself/herself, towards the child, towards other people and towards the world.

Learning outcomes in the area of social competences. The graduate is ready to critically evaluate the received content on childhood and children's rights, recognise the importance of knowledge in solving cognitive and practical problems in the field of human rights, children's rights and childhood as well as to use the acquired research methods; to fulfil social obligations to the child, family, institutions working for children's rights, and to responsibly fulfil the professional roles related to the child and children's rights, taking into account the changing social needs; in particular he/she is ready to
― critically evaluate the received content related to childhood and children's rights;
― consult experts in the event of difficulties in solving the problem on his/her own;
― fulfil social obligations to the child, family and institutions working for children's rights, inspire and organise activities for children's social environments;
― initiate activities in the public interest, think and act in an entrepreneurial manner;
― responsibly fulfil the professional roles related to the child and children's rights, taking into account the changing social needs; take anti-discrimination measures;
― build his/her professional identity in a local and global perspective, remaining open to Polish traditions and experiences as well as international processes and challenges.
