Cross-linguistic Contexts of Social Communication 00-FF-CCS

WORKSHOPS

1. The concept of social communication (2 hours) Basic concepts of social communication: definition, types of communication (verbal, non-verbal), levels of interaction (interpersonal, group, mass).
2. Language as a tool of social interaction (2 hours) Functions of language in society: cognitive, expressive, emotional, regulatory functions. Examples of language interaction in different social contexts.
3. Communicative competence in a multilingual environment (2 hours) Components of communicative competence (grammatical, sociolinguistic, strategic). The impact of multilingualism on the ability to communicate effectively.
4. Theories of language variation and multilingualism (2 hours) Review of models of language variation: dialects, sociolects, registers. The role of multilingualism in modern societies.
5. Intercultural communication: intersection points of language and culture (4 hours) How cultural factors influence speech, interpretation and understanding of messages. Comparison of cultural models of communication.
6. Cross-linguistic aspects of non-verbal communication (4 hours) Types of non-verbal communication (gestures, facial expressions, distance) in different cultures. Their relationship with linguistic features. Social silence as a non-verbal component of social communication.
7. Social norms of language behavior in different cultures (2 hours) Etiquette of language interaction: greetings, apologies, requests. The influence of cultural norms on the perception of politeness.
8. Language, identity and social group (2 hours) How language forms social identity. Language as a marker of belonging to a certain group (national, professional, gender, etc.).
9. Translation and interpretation as models of interlingual communication (2 hours) Translation as an intercultural bridge: problems of equivalence, adaptation of the context, cultural sensitivity.
10. Language barriers and their overcoming in a globalized world (4 hours) Typical difficulties of interlingual communication. Strategies for overcoming barriers: language adaptation, use of international languages.
11. Cross-linguistic approach to conflict resolution (2 hours) How language misunderstandings cause conflicts. Methods for their prevention and resolution in an interlingual context.
12. Final session. Presentations of students' topics (2 hours)
