Are Researchers Like Wives and Never Wrong? The Analysis of Examples from the Empirical Research 00-FF-ARE
The course aims to familiarize students with the standards of empirical reports in force in the psychological literature. Particular emphasis will be placed on methodological and statistical requirements, including the ability to independently conduct classic statistical analyzes in the SPSS package and their interpretation. The course is a workshop using computers with the SPSS program. Empirical data from published scientific articles will be analyzed.
This workshop will be accredited by Predictive Solutions, thanks to which participants (after meeting the criteria) will be able to receive a Junior Certificate or Expert Certificate in data analysis using the SPSS program.
Curriculum content:
1. What are the reasons why psychologists need statistical knowledge? The role of statistics in scientific research.
2-3. TPresentation and discussion of example empirical studies in psychology. Utilizing provided databases to review basic statistical analyses and present alternative solutions.
4-9. The presentations delivered by the students.
10. Are scientists like wives and never wrong? Course summary, conclusions, recommendations, reflections.

The course is conducted in a workshop format.
Completion of the workshop is contingent upon a presentation, the objective of which is to discuss empirical research and demonstrate the assigned data analysis method using an example from a published psychological study.
Criteria for additional credit:
Active participation in class
The course is worth 2 ECTS, which corresponds to approximately 60 hours of workload, including: 30 hours of meetings, 15 hours of individual work, and 15 hours of preparation for the final presentation.
