Learning outcomes

The learning outcomes approved by Resolution No. 111/2021 of the Senate of the Maria Grzegorzewska University of 20 January 2021.

Upon completion of long-cycle Master's degree studies in psychology, the graduate:

in terms of KNOWLEDGE, deeply knows and understands selected facts, theories, methods and complex relationships between them, also in connection with other disciplines, diverse, complex determinants and the axiological context of the conducted activity in the field of psychology;

in particular:

-has an extensive knowledge about the status of psychology in the system of sciences and its subjective and methodological relation to other scientific disciplines,
-has a deepened and structured knowledge about contemporary trends in the development of psychology, understands their historical and cultural determinants,
-has a deepened and structured knowledge about psychological theories, knows the main schools, research approaches, strategies and research methods applied in social sciences,
-has an extensive knowledge about human development in the life cycle from the biological, psychological and social aspects,
-has an extensive knowledge about the types of social bonds and the rules that govern them, important from the point of view of mental processes,
-has a structured knowledge about the goals, organisation and functioning of aid, therapeutic, educational, cultural, educational and care-providing institutions, deepened in selected areas,
-understands psychological processes important for health and its protection and knows the theoretical foundations of preventive and intervention activities relevant to psychology,
-has a structured knowledge about pathologies and dysfunctions related to the emotional sphere, personality and human behaviour, mental disorders and their biological, social and individual determinants,
-has a well-structured knowledge of various forms of psychological help used in the field of psychology, such as health promotion, psychological counselling, psychosocial rehabilitation, crisis intervention and psychotherapy,
-knows and understands the basic concepts of intellectual property and copyright protection, especially with respect to the conventional tools applied in psychology and subject to such protection,
-knows the general rules of establishing and developing various forms of entrepreneurship, knows the psychological aspects of functioning, organisation and professional work as well as selected applications of psychology in supporting individual entrepreneurship,
-understands the fundamental dilemmas of modern civilisation;

in terms of SKILLS, can perform tasks, formulate and solve problems using new knowledge, also from other disciplines, independently plan his/her lifelong learning and guide others in this regard; communicate with diverse groups of recipients, give reasons for his/her position;

in particular:

-has extensive skills to observe, search and interpret information about psychological and social phenomena, using reliable sources and advanced information and communication techniques (ICT),
-can, by appropriate selection of means and methods, use and integrate theoretical knowledge in the field of psychology and related disciplines for the purpose of analysis and innovative solving of complex problems, maintaining the standards adopted in psychology,
-has developed research skills, formulates research problems, selects adequate methods and techniques as well as designs new or adapts existing research tools; develops, interprets and presents research results, draws conclusions, indicates prospective lines of research within a selected sub-discipline of psychology,
-can make a psychological diagnosis in terms of behaviour, personality, individual differences, emotions, motivation and cognitive functions, as well as mental disorders,
-is able to apply selected strategies and impact techniques used in psychological intervention to facilitate the process of change related to undertaking health behaviours, dealing with developmental and situational crises, and disorders of intrapsychic traits affecting health,
-can prepare speeches and written works which meet the standards adopted in psychology,
-can efficiently communicate with the surrounding environment using scientific terminology and various communication channels and techniques, as well as hold a debate on specialist topics,
-knows a foreign language at level B2+ of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, in particular the terminology in the field of psychology,
-can manage the work of a team and cooperate with other people as part of team work; has the skills needed to carry out a psychological and psychological interview with a group,
-can independently plan his/her lifelong learning and guide others in this regard;

in terms of SOCIAL COMPETENCES, is ready to create and develop patterns of proper behaviour in the work and life environment, to take initiative, to critically evaluate himself/herself and the teams and organisations in which he/she participates, to lead a group and take responsibility for it;

in particular:

-is ready to critically evaluate the content received; appreciates the significance of psychological knowledge for supporting the development of the individual and the formation of bonds in social environments; has a positive attitude to acquire knowledge in the field of psychology and develop his/her abilities and to consult experts in the event of difficulties in solving the problem in an independent manner,
-is ready to take on professional and personal challenges; understands the need for continuous development and lifelong learning; is active and entrepreneurial, and engages in cooperation for the social environment,
-is convinced of the need to behave in a professional manner, respecting the rules of personal etiquette and professional ethics; recognises and formulates moral problems and ethical dilemmas related to his/her own and other people's work,
-is accountable for the preparation of his/her work, decisions made, actions taken and their effects; he/she feels accountable to people for whose good he/she tries to act and presents such an attitude in the expert community,
-understands the nature of human contact in a helping situation and is sensitive to the importance of an interpersonal relationship in psychological contact.
