This course aims to deepen students' understanding and practical application of social science methodologies while expanding their knowledge of relevant vocabulary. Students will gain a comprehensive understanding of the research tools commonly used by ethnographers, anthropologists, sociologists, and other social scientists.
By the end of the course, students will:
• Have detailed knowledge of contemporary sociological achievements, key research methodologies, and prominent schools of thought.
• Be well-versed in various methods, tools, and techniques for gathering and analyzing data, enabling them to study and describe social structures, organizations, and institutions.
• Develop the ability to collaborate effectively within research teams, assuming diverse roles in group research projects.
• Be capable of independently expanding their knowledge and research skills, while also encouraging others to engage in similar activities.
• Be prepared to tackle professional and personal challenges with initiative and entrepreneurial spirit, while actively contributing to the social environment.

Contents
Classes will be conducted using the project method.
1. General characteristics of selected departments/specializations within sociology.
2. Subject of interest of selected departments/specializations within sociology.
3. Review of sociological theories.
4. Research methodology and examples of empirical research of selected departments of sociology.
5. Participation in research practice - participation in work on research tools; conducting fieldwork; developing collected research material; presenting the results of analysis of collected material.

• Observation Methods: Participant and non-participant observation, Covert and overt observation, Data recording techniques (e.g., diaries, field notes, coding, modern IT tools), Benefits and limitations of each method
• Interview Techniques: In-depth, casual, structured, and unstructured interviews, Managing the interviewer-interviewee relationship, Selection of respondents, Observing and interpreting cultural artifacts
The course will be highly beneficial for students interested in conducting their own field research or enhancing their skills in research preparation, planning, data collection, analysis, and reporting.
Active participation is encouraged, with students engaging critically with provided readings and discussions on the practical challenges, obstacles, and ethical dilemmas encountered in field research.
